Sentient, visceral, deeply feeling, untamed, and leaving evidence behind.

Hala Sapien is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice centers on sculptural abstraction and the physicality of paint. 

Working primarily with heavy body acrylic mediums, she builds surfaces through accumulation, carving, iteration, and revision. Treating each piece as both image and object.   

Her work uses gesture, color, and loose anatomical motifs to give form to experiences that tend to resist language. 

"It's a conversation between the canvas, the materials, the elements, and I. I don't paint from reference, I paint from presence".  

Studio Sapien exists to honor raw humanity through art, objects, and pure expression. Increasingly, her practice has extended beyond the studio through participatory projects that invite collective reflection, dialogue, and acts of making.
